The Cable Replacement Project.

FYI from the Cable Replacement Project.

From: Robert K McCarthy
Councillor Ward One

Dear Neighbors -

Here's an update on our progress last week, and a look ahead to what expect from the project for the week ahead.

Last week at the New Derby Street work site contractors removed the first two sections of the S-145 cable that runs underneath the sidewalk between Washington Street and Lafayette Street. This week contractors will continue excavating and removing cable in sections. During the second half of the week this crew will likely be working across the intersection of New Derby and Dodge Street Court. While contractors are actively excavating across Dodge Street Court vehicles will not be able turn onto the street. However, once the excavation has been made the trench will be covered with steel plates and access restored.

Our Derby Street cable removal crew was able to excavate and remove cable as far as the Bentley Street intersection by the close of business last Friday. We expect this crew to be working in the area of the Derby-Daniels Street intersection in the second half of this week. From there they will continue their work in sections with the expectation that they cross the intersection of Derby Street and Palfrey Court by the end of the week.

You may also notice other activities near manhole locations associated with the old T-146 cable. Contractors working at these locations are in the process of removing the transmission cables that connect the Canal Street Sub-Station to the Salem Harbor Station via Cedar Street, Lafayette Street, and Derby Street. All other construction activities this week will take place inside the Canal Street Sub-Station, and the Salem Harbor Station.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to completing this work as quickly, and as safely as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our outreach team by calling our toll-free hotline at 844-SALEM-CABLE or through the "Contact Us" feature on the website.

As always, police details will be present at our work sites to facilitate vehicle and pedestrian traffic management. Please continue to exercise caution when approaching these active work areas to minimize risks to personal safety, and to avoid any interference with construction.

Sincerely,
The Salem Cable Project
