3 great events at the Gables



Three great events happening at The Gables


The House of the Seven Gables is a drop-off location for the 12th annual It Starts With Me! Thanksgiving Drive. Drop off your donations to our Visitor Center November 1 — 22, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and receive a coupon for a 10% discount in our Museum Store – good for any time in the month of November.

The following non-perishable goods will be accepted:
  • Gravy, Roasting tins, Stuffing, Canned vegetables, Bottled juice, Cranberry sauce, Cooking oil, and Gift cards to Market Basket that will be used to purchase turkeys and other perishable goods



November 10, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo!) Join The Witch City Writers as they inspire you with a pop culture-inspired writing. Expect a couple of word sprints (10-minute speed writing!) and productive time with fellow writers.

As a thank you for service to our country, The House of the Seven Gables is pleased to offer free admission for veterans with military ID on Veteran’s Day.

Active military families with IDs receive military discounts for guided tours during regular museum hours. Plan your visit >>

Danvers Massachusetts has been known for its History with the Salem Witch trials, the Page family, onions, carrots, and the friendly downtown area filled with varied small businesses. Among these businesses are drug stores, meat markets, hardware stores, soda fountains, and ice cream stands.
Now, we all know the ice cream stores we have been visiting after school since 2000: Cherry Hill Creamery, Putnam Pantry, and Goodies. Did you know there were ice cream stores that were family owned and have now become something completely different? Read this and you will learn something new.

Bob McCarthy, our Ward 1 Councillor, will be updating HDSNA on Salem and the Derby Street neighborhood, and will be available to answer questions.

Annual dues are $10 per household.

The House of the Seven Gables: An Illustrated Classic will be the final lecture in our POP! Goes The Gables series. 

Jack Butterworth is the owner of one of the largest comic art collections in New England. Join us as he shares some insider stories behind the two comic book versions of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel The House of the Seven Gables. This lecture will be held Sunday, December 1, 2 p.m., at The House of the Seven Gables.

Salem’s native son Nathaniel Hawthorne has inspired artists for nearly 200 years — and not just writers. PEM’s new exhibition, The Creative Legacy of Nathaniel Hawthorne: Selections from the Phillips Library Collection, features works of illustrators and authors who are inspired by Hawthorne and continue to reinterpret his stories.

Walk the halls of a house that has stood the test of time to witness the changing nature of the holidays over the years. Experience the history of Christmas in New England as you are guided through our mansion, adorned with holiday decorations.
