​​SALEM, MA - Join the Essex county sailing community as we mark the end of the sailing season with Salem's second annual Downrigging Festival on Saturday November 7, 2015. The day-long event features public sails ($10 for adults, $5 for children 13 and under) on the Schooners ARDELLEand FAME and downrigging demonstrations aboard FRIENDSHIP.
Inspired by the SULTANA Downrigging Weekend, the Salem Downrigging Festival is a celebration of the end of the sailing season, maritime culture, wooded boats and the sailing heritage of the Essex county. Join us for four public sails, an assortment of maritime talks, live demonstrations, ship tours aboard FRIENDSHIP and more! Public sails require a reservation and fee, but all other activities are free and open to the public.

Participants include Schooner FAME, Schooner ARDELLE, Schooner ADVENTUREEssex National Heritage AreaSalem Maritime National Historic Site.
Schedule of Events
Saturday, November 7th

10:30am - A Presentation on the Landing Craft NAUMKEAG and Baker's Island - Annie Harris, Essex National Heritage Area. 160 Derby Street, 2nd Floor.
11:00am - Open ship and demonstrations (each half hour) aboard FRIENDSHIP12:00PM - FAME Public Sail (90 minutes)
12:00pm - An illustrated talk on the current downrigging of FRIENDSHIP
1:00pm - ARDELLE Public Sail (90 minutes)
2:00pm - FAME Public Sail (90 minutes)
2:00pm - An illustrated talk on the current downrigging of FRIENDSHIP
3:00pm - ARDELLE Public Sail (90 minutes)
4:30pm - A Presentation by Captain Stefan Edick, Schooner ADVENTURE. 160 Derby Street, 2nd Floor.
