Mobile pay app for parking meters

From: Robert K McCarthy
Councillor Ward One

Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll is pleased to announce that the City will be launching the mobile pay app, Passport Parking, for the City’s on-street parking meters on Wednesday, October 14.
All meters will have a new sticker with easy instructions on how to use the app to pay for parking. Simply download the app, enter your space number and credit card or coupon information, and select how much time you wish to purchase. Users can set up a virtual wallet in the app, to help pay for future parking sessions, as well, or if they would like to more conveniently add time to an existing parking session. The app accepts all major credit cards, as well as coupon codes from local restaurants and businesses.
The app includes an alert function to automatically notify someone when their parking session is about to expire and allow them, if they have not exceeded the time limit, to add time to their parking session from their mobile device without having to return to the meter.
There is no change in parking rates or enforcement hours with this change. In addition, conventional payments by coin or, at applicable meters, by credit card, will still be accepted. The app will shortly also be available for City surface lots, on a date yet to be announced.
For more information, please see the FAQ for the Passport Parking app. The app itself can be downloaded from your mobile app store by searching for "Passport Parking."
