This Week's Salem Cable Project Newsletter

From:Robert K McCarthy
Councillor Ward One

Dear Neighbors -

Our contractors continue trench excavation on Hawthorne Boulevard, just north of the Derby Street intersection. Once this is complete, the next step is to install duct bank that will eventually house the new underground transmission cables. As you may have noticed, this work is done in 100 to 150 foot sections. Accordingly, it is likely that when the duct bank is installed, that the westbound lane on Derby Street will be detoured for part of the day. As always, police details will be present to facilitate traffic management and to assist everyone through the work zone.

As noted in last week's newsletter, mid-week our contractors resumed work at the Washington Square South manhole site. This work consists of putting in place additional underground supports to increase crew safety and allow the manhole installation to move forward. As a result of this process, Washington Square South will be closed to through traffic during construction with access for residents and emergency vehicles only. The street will be reopened for all traffic at the end of each work day. As reminder, there is no Salem Cable Project construction on the weekends.

Crews are also making good progress inside the Canal Street Station, as they work to make updates necessary for the modern, underground transmission cables. Work will continue inside the confines of the Canal Street Station property throughout the summer, but will not impact roads or traffic.

Next week all of the above mentioned work will continue on Hawthorne Boulevard, Washington Square South, and inside the Canal Street Station.

If you haven't already, please follow our updates on social media. Our Facebook and Twitter updates are good resources -- in addition to our website, and toll-tree hotline -- if you would like information in addition this weekly newsletter.

As always, please don't hesitate to be in touch with any questions you may have. We look forward to continuing our work to keep you informed.
