General announcements

Noah Flaherty, General Manager of Brewer Hawthorne Cove Marina, informed us that there will be a hearing regarding the proposed construction at the marina at the Planning Board meeting on Thursday, November 16 at 7:00 PM at City Hall Annex (120 Washington Street), Room 131. Father Robert Murray, Pastor of the Mary, Queen of the Apostles parish which includes Immaculate Conception Church on Hawthorne Boulevard, introduced himself to the neighborhood and gave news of upcoming activity, including conversion of the parish schoolhouse. Stan Franzeen announced that the Salem Film Fest will present For Ahkeem at The Cabot in Beverly on Sunday, November 26 at 4:30 PM, followed by a Q&A with director and Beverly native Jeremy Levine.
Stan Franzeen announced that SAFE will present The Hidden Costs of Salem's Gas Leaks on Tuesday, November 28 from 7:00 to 8:30 PMat The Enterprise Center at Salem State University.
The House of the Seven Gables is collecting for the It Starts With Me food drive through Monday, November 20. Bring non-perishable goods including gravy, roasting tins, stuffing, canned vegetables, bottled juice, cranberry sauce, cooking oil, and gift cards to Market Basket (used to purchase turkey and other perishables) to the Seven Gables Visitor Center and receive 10% off at the Museum Store.
The House of the Seven Gables will host a talk by Brunonia Barry about her latest work, The Fifth Petal, on Sunday, November 25 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.

HDSNA announcements

The HDSNA thanks the House of the Seven Gables and Deb Costa for their continued generosity in allowing us to use their space for meetings.
HDSNA dues are a voluntary donation of $10 per household per year. See Sharon Smith at any meeting to contribute.
Sign up for the HDSNA email announcement list by sending a message to info@hdsna.org. There have been addresses from signup sheets in recent months that were either illegible or bounced when added to the list, so if you you signed up but haven't been getting announcements, please try again.
Brianna Kenny gave a reminder about the HDSNA referral list to recommend contractors and other service companies and individuals, especially those with experience working with old homes.  Fill out the form online or contact Brianna at briannake@yahoo.com.
Katie Loeffler gave a reminder about the effort to discuss ideas regarding the use of the powerplant land. Contact Katie at kmloeffler@gmail.com to get involved.
Our next meeting will be our holiday potluck, date and place(s) to be determined.

HDSNA business

Changes to the HDSNA bylaws (last updated 2002; PDF) were proposed, including updating the bylaws to increase dues from $5 to $10 and to reflect that the annual meeting is held in November (changes as PDF). The changes and new bylaws (PDF) were approved unanimously by the membership.
HDSNA board elections were held. Officers for Treasurer, Secretary, and Communications Officer ran unopposed and were elected unanimously. The results of the Co-chair election were: Keith Crook: 9, Margaret Crosby: 27, Wendy Meigs: 24, Other/write-in: 2. At-large board members (not subject to election) were introduced.
The new HDSNA board is:

Salem Youth Commission
