NOTICE OF VACANCY - PLEASE POST

TITLE                           Receptionist, Park, Recreation and Community Services

POSITION STATUS:                Full-time, 35 hours per week, non-union position w/benefits

DEPARTMENT:                     Park, Recreation and Community Services

SALARY:                 $14.00-$16.00 per hour, with excellent benefits

JOB SUMMARY:
Position is the first point of contact for visitors and callers interested in programs for youth through senior citizens. Position provides information about the parks throughout the City of Salem, and includes answering phones, responding to customer requests, registering individuals for programs, scheduling appointments, cash handling and constant customer service.

DUTIES INCLUDE:
Receiving and transferring telephone calls, taking messages and providing information when applicable
Greet and welcome patrons and ensure they are provided the needed information
Cash handling and reporting for programs and events
Work closely with the department account clerks to ensure financial best practices
Register visitors for programs through our online software
Assist the Transportation Coordinator with daily rides
Receive and sign for deliveries and packages
Schedule patrons for appointments and service provided by Park, Recreation and Community Services
Maintain a clean and presentable reception area for visitors
Provide administrative and general support to the department while reporting to the Program Manager
Remain familiar with all activities and services that are provided by the department
Distribute needed informational materials to visiting patrons

REQUIREMENTS:
At least one year experience in administrative, front desk responsibilities
Previous cash handling experience
Experience working in a multi-cultural environment preferred
Familiar with the use of general office equipment i.e. copy machine, fax machine, scanner etc.
Customer service experience working with various age groups
Excellent verbal communication skills with a friendly telephone manner
Ability to multi task and prioritize daily responsibilities
Ability to handle stressful situations while resolving issues
Proficiency with Web navigation and computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Express.
Patience and interest in constant communications with the public
General knowledge of the City of Salem preferred
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Majority of time spent in normal office setting.  Noise level in office is moderate, depending upon program(s) taking place. Regularly uses computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.  Occasionally must lift up to 10 pounds.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
