Downtown clean up and street sweeping

On Tuesday, April 14th, beginning at 9pm an intensive downtown clean up and street sweeping program will begin. There will be no on-street parking allowed between the hours of 9pm and Midnight on these streets. Street sweeping and blowing will begin in the Essex Street pedestrian mall, move onto Hawthorne Boulevard to Derby & New Derby Streets., including Front Street and Charter Street then to Washington Street to Bridge Street including Church Street, Federal Street and Lynde Street and Essex Street from North Street to Washington Street.  Intermittent traffic closures will take place as the sweepers move from area to area.  Once the sweepers have completed an area, traffic and on street parking will be returned to normal. All parking restrictions will be posted in advance.

Downtown residents may park free of charge overnight in the Museum Place and South Harbor garages from 8pm Tuesday until 7am Wednesday.  Proof of residency will be required.

There is expected to be some traffic implications as we shutdown each street for cleaning, so please plan your travel accordingly.
