Announcing the 2017 Danvers Ornament!
Each year the Danvers
Historical Society selects a Christmas ornament which symbolizes an
important part of Danvers history. This year we have chosen a crayon in
honor of the Standard
Crayon Factory. Read the full story here.
For years the large
Crayola Crayons billboard attached to the side of the main office on
Maple Street was a familiar fixture in downtown Danvers, and local kids
during the post-World War period into the 60s often were lucky to obtain
samples and broken crayons from the company.
This building, on
Maple Street, built in the 1880s, was a roller skating rink. In the
1890s, it became the Drill Shed for Company K, and was where the troops
met before deployment to the Spanish American War. Share
your stories of Danvers here.
The crayon ornament is
priced at $9.99 and available in red, blue, or yellow at The Danvers
Historical Society Museum store located in the historic Jeremiah
Page House. Become
a member of the Historical Society and receive 10% discount on all
your purchases. Hours are Monday through Friday 9am-1pm. Extended holiday
hours will include Saturdays December 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 9am-1pm. Other
