Where: Hawthorne Hotel at Sophia’s
What: Jim McAllister to speak
Over the centuries the area bounded by Hawthorne Boulevard and Neck Gate, Essex Street and Salem Harbor , has evolved from a bustling port and residential neighborhood to an industrial Eastern European immigrant enclave to a gentrified historic district. This illustrated talk looks at the makeup of the area at various points in its history and major developments that shaped it, along with the usual collection of colorful anecdotes.
Jim McAllister, Salem historian, photographer, author, teacher, and tour guide, will be the featured speaker at the October meeting of the Historic Derby Street Neighborhood Association.
Come join us on Monday, October 12th, beginning at 7:00 pm at the Hawthorne Hotel at Sophia’s, the meeting room adjacent to Nathaniel’s restaurant. Everyone is welcome.
