Dear Salem Wharf Neighbor,
During the month of September, there will be a significant amount of construction activity taking
place at Blaney Street and at the site of the Footprint Dock.
Beginning this week, the contractor will be installing new lighting and grading along the Footprint
side of the Blaney Street parking lot. In addition, some pavement areas will be marked for future
pavement work. This will require some parking restrictions for an estimated 3 days. Signage will be
posted that will notify you of any temporary parking restrictions that will be in place.
Beginning late this week and continuing over the next two weeks, Becket Street may be temporarily
closed to traffic for short periods of time to allow for deliveries of large equipment and
construction materials to the Blaney Street site. Advanced notices will be posted and delivered to
Becket Street residents to inform folks of when these deliveries are to occur. Other deliveries
associated with the work at the Footprint Dock will be made, but should have no impact to the
Blaney Street /Derby Street area.
Thank you for our patience while we undertake these improvements. We will continue to update you
over the coming weeks. If you have any questions related to this project, please feel free to
contact Kathy Winn, Deputy Director of Planning and Community Development via email at
kwinn@salem.com. I will be at the meeting of the Historic Derby Street Neighborhood Association on
Monday, September 8, at 7:00 p.m. at the House of the Seven Gables and would be happy to discuss
this work with you then, as well.
Sincerely,
Kimberley Driscoll Mayor
