City of Salem Updates Public Safety Protocol for Weekends, October 23-November 1, 2020

Early closures for businesses and parking; train service curtailed; no music stages or street performances.

In order to protect the health and well-being of residents, employees, and visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Salem is implementing additional public safety protocols for the weekends of October 23rd to October 25th and October 30th to November 1st. In addition to all Salem Haunted Happenings events being cancelled, which was announced in August, businesses are being asked to close early on October 23rd and October 24th. A Board of Health and Executive Order requiring early closures of businesses is anticipated for October 30th and October 31st. Visitors who are planning to come to Salem that weekend should postpone their visit to Salem.

Harbor Plan 2020

As a part of the update to the Salem Master Harbor Plan, the city is looking for comments by city residents.  This is the chance for the Derby Street neighborhood residents to tell the municipal staff their thoughts on the plan for the harbor.

Attached is the presentation from the last meeting of the master harbor plan committee by the consultants who are updating the plan.  This part was basically a study of the market and real estate conditions currently in Salem and along the harbor.  The data contained in this part of the study will be used as a starting point for formulating recommendations in the plan.

This presentation, as well as background information can be found on the city website for the plan https://harborplan.salem.com/.

Board Volunteers Needed

Are you interested in volunteering for a position on the HDSNA board of directors? Please let me know! While it's not a paid thing, it has its rewards in fun! You can get to know your neighbors, and help organize and plan the monthly meetings.

Board openings include co-chairs, secretary, communications and treasurer. If you'd like to volunteer please email me at smittykay@msn.com! Our November meeting is when the new board will be introduced. We need volunteers badly, so don't be shy! It doesn't take much time from your schedule at all - maybe a couple of hours a month.

It's anyone's guess as to when we'll be scheduling in-person meetings, but hopefully we'll be able to continue with virtual meetings via zoom or other conferencing software.

Thank you and stay safe!
