We invite you to join
us in a Naturalization Ceremony on The House of The Seven Gables lawn on
Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. The House of the Seven
Gables Settlement Association in collaboration with U.S. Citizenship and
Immigration Services (USCIS) will proudly host this event. Dozens of new
citizens from all over the world will be taking the Oath of Allegiance,
after which they will receive their Certificate of Naturalization
officially making them a citizen of the United States. This date honors the
journeys and many roads traveled by these hopeful individuals to officially be
‘named’ Americans. The pride and excitement are palpable.
Join us in
welcoming and celebrating our U.S. citizens. This event is free and open to
the public, weather permitting. If there is inclement weather, this event will
be open to new citizens and their guests only.
This savings is just one of the many member benefits at The
Gables and we are always adding more. Beginning on Friday, September 13, head
over to the Hawthorne Hotel’s Tavern on The Green for their Chocolate Bread
Pudding Trifle inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne’s love of dessert. As stated in
the blog, Paper and Salt, “Hawthorne could always find
a little extra room when the main courses were cleared.” The blog goes
on to say that in a letter to his son, Julian, Hawthorne writes, “I had hardly
any appetite left.” Nevertheless, “I did manage to eat some currant pudding, and
a Banbury cake, and a Victoria cake, and a slice of beautiful Spanish
musk-melon, and some plums."
Members of The Gables will enjoy 25% off
this tasty treat. Simply show the server your member card. Not a member? Join today >> This
delightful trifle only available for a limited time – hurry in!
We are
thrilled to partner with The Hawthorne Hotel, a Taste of The Gables vendor and
sponsor, to bring our members this delicious new
benefit.
What's
New in Preservation
Preservation work here at The
House of the Seven Gables is a never-ending job. For the campus to retain its
year-round beauty requires the work of a talented preservation and maintenance
team. Their daily tasks and projects may go unnoticed as larger projects, such
as the painting of The Gables, take center stage — but their hands are never
idle. As fall comes upon us, clapboards are being replaced and repaired, walking
paths leveled for proper drainage, garden beds tended as summer blooms fade
away, and signage reinforced as we prepare for the October crowds.
In
1668, John Turner paid to have this house built. The fortunes of all who lived
here are dispersed. The names of many who lent their hand to this work are lost
to time. However, it is the work of their hands that stands today. We celebrate
the lasting and important work of all of those who have been involved in
preserving these structures.
