Last Chance for Foam Recycling

From: Christian Haselgrove

Unfortunately, Refoamit  the Leominster company that has been recycling foam for many in the region, is closing down.  There will be one more collection event in Peabody, to be held
May 21 9 am - 1 pm.

Our neighbor Anna Brandenburg will be collecting foam prior to this event, for delivery to Peabody.  Anyone who has foam to contribute, please email foam@hdsna.org for drop-off information.

We hope that a new alternative will become available in the coming months, so that we can resume collecting on behalf of the neighborhood.  In the meantime, hopefully you can stash your foam somewhere out of sight!

Thanks All for recycling!

FYI from the cable replacement project

FYI from the cable replacement project.

From: Robert K McCarthy
Councillor Ward One

Dear Neighbors,
In total approximately, 15,000 feet—70 percent—of outdated underground cable has been removed since this project phase began. As the crew works toward each other from their respective ends of the route over the next few weeks, the removal process finally nears its end.

For the latest information from all of the Salem Cable Project's current work sites and a forecast of what to expect next week, keep reading.

On the west end of the removal route, contractors reached the intersection of New Derby Street and Lafayette Street this week. The crew has removed all of the underground cable between the Canal Street Station and this intersection, and they'll continue working their way east, across the intersection, over the next week.

At the Derby Street end of the removal route, contractors have removed all of the underground cable between the Salem Harbor Station entrance and Palfrey Court. This coming week, contractors will continue trenching, removing cable sections, back-filling, and repaving the excavations in the direction of Congress Street.

As always, police details will be present at our work sites to facilitate vehicle and pedestrian traffic management. Please use caution in and around these active work areas to minimize risks to your personal safety and to avoid any interference with construction.

Thanks for your patience and cooperation as we work to complete the removal phase of the Salem Cable Project as quickly and safely as possible. As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us by calling our toll-free hotline at 844-SALEM-CABLE or through the "Contact Us" feature on the website.

Sincerely,
The Salem Cable Project

Cable Replacement Project Update

Cable Replacement Project Update

From: Robert K McCarthy
Councillor Ward One

We wanted to check in with a brief update on cable removal.

As you know, our crews are currently working on at the corner of New Derby and Lafayette Street, and on Derby Street near the intersection of Daniels Street. Good progress continues at both sites.

At the New Derby Street work site contractors expect to complete the majority of their work on Lafayette Street corner by the end of the day on Friday. That's said there may be some residual work to complete at the start of next week. Contractors look forward to getting started in the New Derby Street-Lafayette Street intersection on Wednesday.

At the Derby Street work site contractors expect that they will complete their work on the trench that is currently being excavated near Palfrey Court by the close of the work day on Friday. Once the section of cable is removed and the trench is backfilled and repaved, contractors will open up the next trench section and repeat the process heading west on Derby Street.

If you have questions about any of the above mentioned cable removal activities, or know of someone who does, please feel free share with them our toll-free project hotline number 844-SALEM-CABLE.

Your patience is greatly appreciated as we work to complete cable removal as quickly, and as safely as possible.

Thank you,
Darin

The Cable Replacement Project.

FYI from the Cable Replacement Project.

From: Robert K McCarthy
Councillor Ward One

Dear Neighbors -

Here's an update on our progress last week, and a look ahead to what expect from the project for the week ahead.

Last week at the New Derby Street work site contractors removed the first two sections of the S-145 cable that runs underneath the sidewalk between Washington Street and Lafayette Street. This week contractors will continue excavating and removing cable in sections. During the second half of the week this crew will likely be working across the intersection of New Derby and Dodge Street Court. While contractors are actively excavating across Dodge Street Court vehicles will not be able turn onto the street. However, once the excavation has been made the trench will be covered with steel plates and access restored.

Our Derby Street cable removal crew was able to excavate and remove cable as far as the Bentley Street intersection by the close of business last Friday. We expect this crew to be working in the area of the Derby-Daniels Street intersection in the second half of this week. From there they will continue their work in sections with the expectation that they cross the intersection of Derby Street and Palfrey Court by the end of the week.

You may also notice other activities near manhole locations associated with the old T-146 cable. Contractors working at these locations are in the process of removing the transmission cables that connect the Canal Street Sub-Station to the Salem Harbor Station via Cedar Street, Lafayette Street, and Derby Street. All other construction activities this week will take place inside the Canal Street Sub-Station, and the Salem Harbor Station.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to completing this work as quickly, and as safely as possible. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our outreach team by calling our toll-free hotline at 844-SALEM-CABLE or through the "Contact Us" feature on the website.

As always, police details will be present at our work sites to facilitate vehicle and pedestrian traffic management. Please continue to exercise caution when approaching these active work areas to minimize risks to personal safety, and to avoid any interference with construction.

Sincerely,
The Salem Cable Project

Cable Replacement Project Update

FYI from the Cable Replacement Project.

From: Robert K McCarthy
Councillor Ward One

Dear Neighbors -

Here's an update on our progress, and a forecast of what to expect from the Salem Cable Project this week.

Starting this morning cable removal began at the corner of New Derby Street and Washington Street. This cable removal crew will be working in the sidewalk on the right side of New Derby Street heading towards Lafayette Street. Once cable is removed from this stretch of New Derby Street this crew will continue working through the New Derby Street-Lafayette Street, where the cable route crosses to the opposite side of the street. We continue to coordinate with businesses along the removal route ahead of excavation. Please note that work sites will be set up to ensure that entrances to businesses are accessible during, and after work hours.

On Derby Street our cable removal crew is making good progress. During the first half of this week they will be working on the Turner-Hardy Street block of Derby Street. We expect this crew to approach Daniels Street by the end of the week. Please note that while we do not expect road closures at either end of the removal route, there maybe be times when traffic is slowed or stopped to allow for excavation across intersections, and for construction vehicles to reconfigure themselves inside of these work areas.

You may also notice other activities near manhole locations associated with our project, as contractors work to remove the obsolete duct bank housed underground T-146 cable that connects the Canal Street Sub-Station, and the Salem Harbor Station via Cedar Street, Lafayette Street, and Derby Street. All other construction activities this week will take place inside the Canal Street Sub-Station, and the Salem Harbor Station.

As always, police details will be present at our work sites to facilitate vehicle and pedestrian traffic management. Please continue to exercise caution when approaching these active work areas to minimize risks to personal safety, and to avoid any interference with construction.

We look forward to continuing to work with you to complete this work as quickly, as safely, and with as little inconvenience as possible. As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our outreach team by calling our toll-free hotline at 844-SALEM-CABLE or through the "Contact Us" feature on the website.

Sincerely,
The Salem Cable Project
